Guide to Symbols

There are a number of official schemes that potentially affect the design of a building and these are shown below and feature throughout the guide.

WRAS Logo

Water Regulations Advisory Scheme – products featuring thislogo are listed in the RAS Water Fittings Directory and are approved for use on the UK Water Supply System.

ECA Logo

The water technology list is Run by Defra, this lists products that are considered by Defra to have a positive impact on water saving. Building owners can claim 30% off the total cost of product and installation against corporation tax.

BREEM Logo

The Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) assesses the environmental friendliness of buildings. There are schemes that cover offices, retail, industrial, schools, healthcare, prisons and courts.

BMA Logo

The Bathroom Manufacturers Association is an independent forum for bathroom manufacturers trading in the UK. The BMA Water Efficiency Labelling Scheme is designed to easily help identify products that when installed and used correctly use less water than other products on the market.

Waterwise Logo

The Waterwise marque is the first scheme in the UK to highlight water efficient products. It is awarded annually to products which reduce water wastage or raise awareness of water efficiency.

BEAB Approved Logo

The BEAB Approved Mark is an electrical safety mark. It demonstrates to everyone in the supply chain that the UK's leading, independent approvals specialists have evaluated a product to the highest European and International standards.

BEAB Care Logo

The BEAB CARE Mark has been developed in recognition of the additional performance requirements of certain products within the care industry:

  • Hospitals
  • Care homes
  • Hotels
  • Residential care

The BuildCert TMV Scheme is an independent third party approval scheme administered by BuildCert. The scheme ensures that tested valves meet the necessary requirements. When selecting a thermostatic mixing valve it is essential that they are suitable for their intended use.

TMV2 Logo

These are certified Type 2 thermostatic mixing valves for the domestic market that meet the requirements of BSEN111 and/or BSEN1287 as well as additional requirement of the BuildCert TMV2 scheme. TMV2 scheme is working with the Child Accident Prevention Trust to promote the safe use of hot water in domestic premises.

TMV3 Logo

These are certified Type 3 thermostatic mixing valves manufactured to meet the highest specifications required by the NHS Estates DO8 Standard for mixing valves for use within health care premises in the United Kingdom.
