UK Water Usage - The Facts

Water Efficieny Graph

As eco issues become more pressing, and higher water metering bills affect more households, so bathrooms must find effective ways to offer personal bathing and performance whilst using less water. The average UK home water usage per household is shown below:

  • Currently the average UK household (2.65 residents) usage is 150 litres per person per day. 30% of this is attributed with flushing the toilet
  • Billions of litres of water are wasted each and every day
  • A typical family uses 70,000 litres of water a year
  • UK toilets needlessly flush away 1.2 billion litres of water a day
  • A single dripping tap could potentially waste over 1000 litres of water a year
  • A running tap uses 6 litres of water per minute
  • The Government target is to reduce bath capacities in new homes to below the current 230 limit

Over 60 Marques have been awarded across a broad spectrum of products including dishwashers, showerheads, water storing gels for the garden, toilets and urinals, drought resistant turf, domestic water recycling products, water butts, a waterless carwash, tap flow restrictors, shower timers and devices to reduce the amount of water used when flushing your toilet, amongst others.
